Biscotti

Yesterday I told you that we in the U.S. have been accidentally asking for Italian items in their plural form. Now that you've maybe come to terms with that, I have something much more shocking to share with you: biscotti (plural) simply means "cookies." The delicious anise and or almond flavored cookies in the photo at left are known around Rome as tozzetti and around Tuscany as cantuccini. Apparently they are both eaten more commonly after meals here with coffee, milk, or a sweet white wine.
