Festa Della Donna

International Women's Day, or Festa della Donna is celebrated in Italy and much of Europe every year on March 8th to celebrate and recognize the economic, political and social achievements of women. Though the holiday originated in the U.S. in the early 20th century, I'm only aware of local celebrations in America. In Italy, the day is commemorated by men (and some women) giving sprigs of mimosa flowers to wives, mothers, daughters and female friends. Today only, vendors could be seen carrying bright yellow bushels of mimosa sprigs throughout the subway- a lovely sight!
