U.S. Embassy Rome - Warden Message
The U.S. Embassy in Rome  informs citizens that on March 18, 2006 a demonstration of approximately twenty thousand (20,000) persons is scheduled to march through the streets of Rome, coinciding with the third anniversary of the start of the war in Iraq. The route of the demonstration is: Piazza della Repubblica via Cavour, via Fori Imperiali via Corso Vittorio Emanuele, via Piazza Navona.

The march will begin at 1400 hrs (2p.m.) in Piazza della Repubblica and finish with speeches in Piazza Navona at approximately 1900 hrs (7p.m.).

Even though the police have no advance knowledge of any intention to create disorder, the police cannot totally exclude that some violent acts will take place spontaneously.

We wish to remind American citizens that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possibly escalate into violence. American citizens are therefore urged to avoid the areas involved with the demonstration during Saturday afternoon and early evening, and to exercise caution if within the vicinity of any demonstrations.
